About Our Research

The British University in Georgia is committed to advancing scientific research that generates intellectual insights and addresses contemporary societal challenges.

About Our Research

The University’s primary objective is to integrate research findings into the educational process and translate them into practical applications.

Recognizing both global and national challenges, the University has prioritized research initiatives aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on:

  • Goal 1: No Poverty

  • Goal 4: Quality Education

  • Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

By exploring these critical areas, the University seeks to develop innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable development and social progress.

Research Initiatives and Impact

In 2023, the British University launched the international research project “Poverty Stoplight” in collaboration with Fundación Paraguaya. This initiative aims to support Georgian families in overcoming poverty through data-driven assessments and tailored interventions. As part of the project:

  • Academic staff developed research indicators.

  • A pilot audience was identified.

  • The first field research was conducted in Georgia’s Kakheti region in September 2023, with student participation.

  • A research analysis report was prepared in collaboration with Fundación Paraguaya.

  • Two workshops, “Prioritization and Solution Design,” were held to develop targeted poverty reduction strategies.

Building on this success, in September 2024, the University hosted the international conference “From Insight to Impact: Research, Resources, and Resilience in University-Led Development.” The event featured Fundación Paraguaya and its international partners, showcasing successful applications of the Poverty Stoplight methodology. Speakers emphasized the role of technology-driven poverty reduction strategies and highlighted how higher education institutions can drive sustainable development.

Expanding Research Collaboration

In 2024, the British University initiated a strategic partnership with the Development Agency of Gori Municipality to further its commitment to community-centered research. As part of this collaboration:

  • University academic staff, researchers, and students conducted a second field study in three impoverished villages in Gori Municipality.

  • The research findings were analyzed and presented to colleagues at the Gori Municipality Development Agency.

  • The University is currently working on a development strategy for the valley where these villages are located, aiming to create long-term, sustainable solutions for economic and social growth.

The British University team has launched a micro-franchise initiative involving three local families. Each family was equipped with a set of products—food items, coffee, and hygiene supplies—enabling them to sell within the valley and diversify their sources of income. The research team maintains ongoing contact with the families, providing continuous support and guidance.

In addition, the University has begun assisting the Municipality by developing an official website. Future plans include offering specialized services to families interested in establishing family-run hotels in the valley. To this end, the University will provide tailored consultations designed to help these families create sustainable and competitive hospitality businesses.

The British University remains dedicated to expanding its research activities and fostering collaborations that drive meaningful change.
